The evaluation of candidates for the post of Vice Chancellor (VC) of four universities in Punjab shows some interesting patterns.
The VC Search Committee evaluated 12 candidates, three for each university, on the basis of their qualification, teaching and research experience and administrative experience and the interview conducted by the committee. Except for interview which carries 40 marks each head carries 20 marks making 100 a total score.
The candidates who had their PhD degrees from among top 500 universities were awarded 20 score while those from other universities were awarded 15 score each. It is interesting to note here that all those candidates who have their degrees from top universities of the world got lowest marks in the interview.
The much-awaited interviews of candidates for the position of Vice Chancellor of four public universities of Punjab have finally been conducted by the chief minister of the province, Shahbaz Sharif.
For each university the Search Committee had forwarded a panel comprising three candidates. Among all the 12 candidates (for four different posts) Prof Mujahid Kamran, the two-time VC of the Punjab University, is the only candidate who got 20 score each for qualification, teaching and research experience and administrative experience (out of 20 for each). However, at the same time he got the lowest score 25 (out of 40) in the interview by the search committee among all the candidates.
Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir is the only candidate who is in panel forwarded for two universities, Punjab University and University of Sargodha and for each university his score is 80. Prof Dr Tahir Kamran with 83 tops the chart of candidates for the University of Sargodha.
Among all the candidates evaluated by the VC Search Committee two individuals had scored maximum 89 out of 100. They are Prof Dr Shahida Hasnain, VC-candidate for the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) and Prof Dr Mohammad Zubair candidate for the Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering & Technology (MNS-UET) Multan. Both of them also top the panel for their respective varsities.
Dr Shahida Hasnain and Prof Dr Uzma Quraishi got the highest score for interviews 35 (out of 40) each by the search committee among all the candidates and both are vying for the LCWU.
